The basics

What Are Your Denture Options?

Partial dentures replace sections of missing teeth between your healthy teeth. They're often used as a provisional restoration, holding the space until an implant or another option is ready, or to maintain your smile while an implant heals.

Full dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth, for the upper, lower, or both arches. They rest directly on the gums; your gums and facial muscles provide the support they need.

Most patients can improve the stability of their dentures with implant support. Placing 2 to 4 implants in the jawbone underneath a denture anchors it in place, improving function and confidence.

Maintenance

Caring for Your Dentures

  • Remove and clean dentures every night, don't sleep in them.
  • Lay a towel on the counter or fill the sink with water in case you drop them while cleaning.
  • Brush with a soft-bristled brush and denture paste or soap and water, not toothpaste, which can scratch them.
  • Soak in a denture cleaning solution overnight, and brush your remaining teeth, gums, and tongue morning and night.

Which fits

Dentures vs. Implant-Supported Dentures

Removable dentures rely on suction and your gums for support and will have more movement than natural teeth. Implant-supported dentures anchor to 2 to 4 implants, improving stability so you can enjoy more types of food with more confidence. Learn more about implant restorations →

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do dentures require special care?

Yes, they need to be removed nightly for cleaning and soaked in a denture solution. We'll give you care instructions specific to your type of denture.

Will an implant-supported denture feel more secure?

Most patients find it more stable than a removable denture alone, since it's anchored to implants.

What's the difference between a partial and a full denture?

A partial denture replaces some missing teeth between your remaining natural teeth. A full denture replaces an entire arch.
