![]() Talk to Us about the Dental ProcedureWe want you to be well informed about exactly what will happen during your root canal procedure. We also want you to ask any questions that you might have so that you can feel better prepared. During this conversation, we will also examine your tooth and may recommend antibiotics if an infection is present. Take Ibuprofen We recommend that you take ibuprofen before your procedure, as this is an anti-inflammatory medication. Not only will it help to alleviate potential discomfort, but it will also ease some swelling that might be present in your mouth. You'll feel more comfortable throughout the procedure. Don't Drink Alcohol or SmokeWe recommend that you don't smoke or use alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment, but holding out even longer is better. Additionally, you'll need to refrain from smoking for at least 72 hours after your root canal, so make a plan for how you will cope. Eat Well Before Your Procedure Don't fast before your root canal procedure. Instead, enjoy a satisfying meal. Your mouth will likely feel numb after the procedure, so you won't be able to eat for quite some time until the numbness subsides. Even so, you'll have to stick to soup and soft foods for the first few days of your recovery, so take the opportunity to nourish your body before the root canal. Do you need a root canal, or do you have questions about your upcoming appointment? If so, give our office a call today. |
