Abscesses are infections that are found along the gum line to the side of the tooth, or sometimes can come from inside, or under the tooth. These are problems that need to be taken care of right away.
You shouldn't ignore the pain that comes with them and you should always give our office a call as soon as you notice that you have an abscess because you want to make sure that the problem is handled sooner, rather than later.
Managing the Discomfort of an Abscess
When you have discomfort that comes from an abscess, you want to make sure that you speak with us about ways to reduce the pain until we can get you into our office.
Use over the counter medications to reduce any pain and swelling that might occur in the mouth. You want to reduce the swelling, as this is what is causing all of the pain. By placing a warm, wet tea bag on the infected area, you can help to relieve some of the pressure, allowing the mouth to relax.
Another thing to do is place a cold compress on the outside of the mouth. This can be anything from an ice pack to a bag of peas. This reduces the amount of swelling in the gums and helps the face relax. Always, always give our office a call first.
Give our office a call to find out when we can get you in. If you let us know that you have an abscess that needs to be handled, we will get you in as soon as possible. This is because it is important that this problem is handled before the infection becomes any worse than it already is. Call us today for this serious problem so we can lend a hand to get you covered.
